TF 08 SE WICKENBY LISSINGTON ROAD 4/39 Church of St.Peter and 30.11.66 St.Lawrence G.V. II* Parish church. C12, C13, C14, C15, 1868 restoration by G. G. Scott. Squared limestone rubble and ashlar, plain tiled and lead roofs, with stone coped gables. Western tower, nave, chancel, south aisle and porch. Tower of 3 stages by G. G. Scott, with moulded plinth, string course, coved cornice with gargoyles at angles, and corner buttresses. The 4 light west window has trefoil heads to the lights and central oval motif containing mouchettes and quatrefoil. Paired cusped headed lights in chamfered arches to 4 sides of belfry stage. Projecting stair turret to north east angle of tower. North wall has a single chamfered round headed C12 blocked doorway. A C15 3 light window has trefoil heads to the lights, perpendicular panels over, and is set in a rounded arch with hood mould and beast head stops. Further east is an interrupted keeled string course with C19 head terminals and a recut 3 light C14 window with cusped ogee heads to the lights and flat lintel. The C15 east window is in a single chamfered 4 centred arched surround containing 3 tightly cusped headed lights and a brattished transome. Above is a C19 niche flanked by small ogee headed lights. In south wall of chancel is a 3 light window matching that on the north but with a reset C14 head above. The south wall of aisle which has a lead roof has a C14 4 light window with cusped ogee heads and a segmental chamfered arch over, and in the south and west walls are single 3 light C14 windows having cusped heads and flat lintels. The C19 gabled ashlar porch with lead roof has an outer continuously moulded doorway with flying angel capitals bearing shields. Inside is the restored continuously moulded C14 doorway within which the original wooden door survives with contemporary closing ring and decorative iron fixing plate. The door is diagonally braced to rear and retains its wrought iron hinges. Interior. The late C13 3 bay south arcade has double chamfered arches, octagonal piers and capitals. The C19 tower arch has 3 chamfered arches and octagonal responds. The south aisle has a C14 piscina with cusped ogee head and human head stops. In the east wall are 2 repositioned C14 corbels and a small head. In the nave north wall is a blocked segmental headed doorway. The principal members of the nave and aisle roofs are moulded with cusped braces to the angles, all probably C15. The nave and chancel are structurally undifferentiated, but there is a reassembled C15 screen of 4 lights to either side of the central opening which is surmounted by a cusped ogee arch. The heads of the lights are cusped with mouchettes. There is a C19 carved and painted wooden reredos in the chancel. Other fittings are C19 apart from the C14 octagonal font bowl set on a later base. Remnants of C14 stained glass consisting of 3 heraldic panels are in the more easterly south aisle window and the chancel has 3 stained glass windows from c1889. Monument: in the east wall of the south aisle is set a brass to Henry Millner d,1635, showing a corpse in a winding sheet with arms above and surrounded by an elaborate frame bearing guilloche decoration with cornice.
