Description
POINTON CHURCH LANE TF 13 SW AND SEMPRINGHAM (south side) 5/172 Well G.V. II Well. C12, C19, C20. Fragments of limestone ashlar, rubble and cobbles; some cement. Oval plan. Central round well with underwater stone culvert to south. Oval cobbled area around well, with some cement. Perimeter of oval with 2 ascending steps of weathered architectural ashlar fragments. To the south a rectangular 'plinth' supports traceried ashlar fragment. Possibly connected with the cult of St. Gilbert, whose Gilbertine abbey was several hundred yards to the south.
