Description

The second erroneous listing of this building was removed from the National Heritage List for England on 16 December 2016. The building was re-listed a second time in error in the 15th amendment of the 2A list of Buildings of Special Architectural and Historic Interest for the District of South Kesteven on 17 June 2002. Second listing WESTGATE (East Side) No 12 and 13 H. H. Cox Ltd and Cammacks Ltd SK921303580 Grade II Shop, now a pair of shops. 1903. Red brick with terracotta dressings and pantile roof. 3 storey. Street front has polished granite plinth and central recessed doorway with part glazed door and large overlight. Chamfered side windows are round headed with ornate wooden spandrels. Either side two large plate glass shop windows also with ornate wooden spandrels, surrounds have wooden fluted pilasters with cresting supporting continuous fascia board above. Fascia has built-in retractable canvas canopies and is topped over the central door by a small pediment inscribed 1903. Above an upper shop-front with 10 round headed plate-glass windows all with ornate wooden spandrels, flanked by single panelled pilasters supporting a fascia board above with small pediments at either end over the pilasters. Top floor has two glazing bar sashes to either side in moulded terracotta surrounds linked by a continuous upper cornice topped with a plain brick parapet with terracotta coping and terminating piers surmounted by ball finials. Between the windows a central clock supported on an ornate iron bracket. Original listing WESTGATE (East Side) Nos. 12 and 13 SK 9135 NW 8/302 Grade II GV Dated 1903. Three storeys in brick. Stone-coped parapet with ball finials. Moulded stone cornice with band continuing heads of four second-floor windows, moulded stone architraves, hung sashes. Shop front on two floors, that on the first being of ten arcaded lights with carved spandrels, wood fascia with triglyphs and with ends gabled to panelled pilasters. Ground floor shop front has larger arcaded lights with carved spandrels and wood fascia with small centre pediment over doorway. Grooved and carved end pilasters. Clock on wrought iron bracket. Includes part of a group. Westgate Hotel and Nos. 1 to l3 (consec) form a group. Listing NGR: SK9129635780
