Description

1. 1671 BARN HILL (West Side) Barn Hill House TF 0207 1/29 22.5.54. II* GV 2. Mediaeval origins, rebuilt in late C17, with a front added in the classic manner in the early-mid C19. (Rain water head dated 1834). Ashlar, with rusticated quoins, moulded plinth and cornice with modillions and a band below it. 2 storeys and attic storey. 5 windows in stone architraves with multiple keystone. 2 windows on ground floor in stone surrounds with keystone and with consoles and balustrades below cill level. The attic storey consists of a windowed pseudo parapet with ornamental panels at either end with swags and rams' head ornament, and a smaller cornice above. 2 stone stacks. A classic projecting porch in Roman Doric of circa 1843 with 4 fluted columns and entablature. Rusticated round-headed frame with mask on keystone to central entrance door. Small niche on each side. Interior:- has good panelled rooms, some with bolection mouldings, and some earlier. Bolection moulded fireplaces with original tiles in several rooms. Staircase is C19 and undistinguished. Terrace of 3 steps to front door. Barn in Scotsgate is included within the curtilage of this property. It is a minor C18 building, 2 storeys in coursed rubble with stone slate roof. Nos 2 to 6 (consec), Barn Hill House, Wall & Gatepiers with Gazebo in garden of BarnHill House form a group. Listing NGR: TF0275707203
