Description
1. 1671 ST GEORGE'S SQUARE (South Side) No 19 TF 0307 1/161 22.5.54. II* GV 2. Dated on chimney 17th October 1674, but with early C18 front. 2 storeys and attics in ashlar. Hipped stone slate roof with 2 rows of hipped dormers with glazing bars. 2 finely moulded rusticated chimney stacks , similar to those at Linden Hall, Rutland. 6 windows, double-hung sashes with original glazingbars in moulded frames which continue into bands above. Small rusticated keystones, to 1st floor windows; plain keystone to top floor. Ground floor windows have C19 sashes and ornament added to keystone. Small plinth with inset foot scrapers. Rusticated quoins, Modillion eaves cornice. 6-panel door in moulded stone case with broken scrolled pediment with cornice on brackets. Interior:- has fine staircase, and several panelled rooms, the finest being on the ground floor, 1674, with rectangular pedalling with bolection moulds. Fine classic stone fireplace with modillion cornice and Ionic pilasters, Panelled ceilings in this room and hall adjoining, and moulded casing to beams. C17 windows to staircase and back. 2 other rooms have good fireplaces. An important house. The Church of St George, Nos 1 to 7 (consec), Nos 9 to 12 (consec), Outbuilding to No 12 and Nos 14 to 22 (consec) form a group. Also Nos 1 to 7 (consec), Nos 9 to 12 (consec), Outbuilding to No 12 and Nos 14 to 22 (consec) with Nos 25 and 26 St Mary's Street form a group. Listing NGR: TF0317607056
