Description
1. 1671 SCOTGATE (South Side) No 13 (Truesdale's Hospital) TF 0207 1/346 II GV 2. A foundation of 1700 for aged and poor men, whose numbers were extended to 16 when the almshouse was rebuilt in 1832 (date on rainwater heads). Elaborate C19 'Tudor' stone screen frontage of one storey with 2 gables with finials flanking larger gable, all containing heraldic shields. Crenellated parapet. 3 groups of ornamental stone stacks. 2-3-2 cusped light mullioned windows with continuous dripmould, and central 4-centred door. 2 gate piers with pyramidal capitals and inset scrapers. C19 cast iron railing. Courtyard has 2 ranges of coursed rubble cottages, each with gable with heraldic shield over 4-centred doorway with dripmould. 7 paired windows with stone surrounds and dripmoulds to each side. Plinth. Rainwater heads dated 1833 and 1843. Nos 13 and 14 form a group. Listing NGR: TF0268407176
