Description
NORTH WITHAM CHURCH LANE SK 92 SW (east side) 8/119 Manor House 26.4.76 G.V. II House. Possibly medieval hall, floored in late C16, extended early C18, altered early Cl9. Cased in timber frame and coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, concrete tiled roof having raised stone coped gables, 2 ashlar gable stacks, one with a moulded cornice. L-plan. 2 storey, irregular 4 bay front having off-centre 6 panelled door with fanlight, rusticated door surround, the semi-circular head being wider than the door opening. To left a single and to right 2 glazing bar sashes, those on the right being larger. To first floor are 4 similar windows at 2 levels, all windows have ashlar lintels with keystones. Interior. Earlier rear wing has massive beams and fireplace bressumer. The dining room has a deeply chamfered beam with pyramid stop. Position of original screens passage is clear from the change in floor level and secondary beam. Evidence of earlier timber frame can also be seen. One corner cupboard with splat baluster vents and fielded and panelled doors. Early C19 stick baluster stair with wreathed handrail. Listing NGR: SK9281321823
