Description

TF 07 NW NETTLEHAM HIGH STREET (north side) 5/52 Old School and School House II Former school and house, now used for community purposes. 1856. Coursed squared rubble with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with 4 tall limestone stacks with chamfered corners and moulded splayed tops. The main school block has a gabled bellcote at the left hand end and is linked to the house at the other. In front of the main range is a smaller parallel range of 4 bays. Single storey with the house of of one and a half storeys, 8 bay irregular facade with continuous moulded plinth. The main front has a central shaped wall stack flanked by single 3 light casements with chamfered mullions and ashlar surrounds. To the left is the 4 bay block with 2 pairs of 2 light casements. To the right is an advanced gabled porch with planked door in pointed opening with circular light over in octagonal ashlar surround. Beyond is the gabled house block with a plain sash to both floors. These openings have shaped ashlar lintels, and the first floor window has a pointed relieving arch and herringbone masonry to the tympanum. The 2 gables at the left hand end contain a further planked door with circular light over matching that in the porch, and a 2 light casement with mullions and ashlar surround with circular opening contained in the tympanum. In the gable is a lozenge of herringbone work and above the gabled bellcote. On the ridges are 3 conical metal ventilators. Listing NGR: TF0088375222
