Description
LONG SUTTON HIGH STREET TF 4222-4322 (north-east side) 12/26 No,15, The Antique Shop G.V. II House, now house and shop. Late C18 with C20 shop. Rendered brick. Slate roof. 2 gable stacks. Left coped gable. Bracketed wooden eaves. 2 storeys plus attic, 3 bays. Central doorway with panelled door and reveal, ornate fanlight and moulded surround with small keystone, either side are single fluted half columns with urns on dosserets and surmounted by open pediment. To the left is the C20 projecting shop with part glazed door and large fixed window to the left, single outer pilasters and entablature. To the right of the central doorway is a single plain sash with 3 similar sashes above, all with small moulded hoods. In the attic are 2 dormers each with single 2 light casement. Attached to the side wall of the shop and extending in front of the house is a low brick and render wall surmounted by decorative wrought iron railings and with small gateway. Interior. C18 dogleg staircase with turned balusters and raking moulded handrail. C18 panelled doors throughout, some with L hinges, some with moulded architraves with patera. This building reputed to be that in whcih Dick Turpin, famous highwayman, was born. Listing NGR: TF4322422992
