LINCOLN SK9771SE LINDUM ROAD 1941-1/12/208 (East side) 15/08/73 Sessions House (Formerly Listed as: LINDUM ROAD (East side) Magistrates Courts) GV II Magistrates' courts and former police station. 1805, by William Hayward. Brick with stone dressings and slate roof with a rear wall stack. Plinth, first floor band, eaves with paired modillions. 2 storeys, 5 bays. Symmetrical front has end bays defined by giant pilasters, each with an Ionic doorcase and pediment. Between them, 3 blank windows. Above, 5 glazing bar sashes, all with rubbed brick heads. North and south sides have regular fenestration with glazing bar sashes, some of them blank. INTERIOR has cantilevered stone winder staircase with shaped landing and iron stick balusters. Courtroom has moulded cornice and doorcases, panelled benches, and semicircular dock with sounding board. Gallery on iron posts with lamp holders. Splayed enclosure to magistrates' seats, with enriched pediment topped with a figure of Justice. The grounds of this property are a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County Ref. No.269.
