Description

SOMERSBY TF37SW Mud and Stud House approx 25m north of 1512-0/2/10000 Church of St Margaret II House, now vacant and partly collapsed. Mid C18 and late C19. Mud and stud with some brick patching to east front. Plain tile roof with central ridge stack. Single storey plus attic. East front has an off-centre board door flanked to left by a sliding sash. Window to the right sheeted over. Above the door, a large tile hung gabled dormer with a 2-light sliding sash. Framing with a diagonal brace exposed in north east comer. Remainder of building covered in ivy at time of survey. Barley's illustration shows 2 rooms divided by a central fireplace, with a buttery off the main room, and a chamber over. This is a vernacular plan, current from the early C17. This building is a little altered example and therefore of special interest. Listing NGR: TF3436572688
