Description
THORPE ST.PETER WAINFLEET LANE TF 56 SW (east side) 5/66 Thorpe Farmhouse G.V. II Farmhouse with attached bakehouse, now storeroom, c.1670, mid C18, c.1820, C20. Stock brick, red brick. Slate roofs with brick coped gables with kneelers; single large ridge stack, single projecting gable stack. L-plan plus 2 storey porch in re- entrant angle, and projecting staircase bay to rear, with C20 covered passage leading to attached mid C18 bakehouse. Plinth. 2 storeys with garret, 4 bay west front encased in stock brick and remodelled in C19. Projecting porch to left with semi-circular headed doorway with inner fanlight and double panelled doors. Single plain sash to right with a single, glazing bar sash beyond. Left hand bay projects far forward with single glazing bar sash in return wall and another in its west front. Single glazing bar sash above to left, with small bathroom plain sash to right. 2 plain sashes beyond with another glazing bar sash to right. All the windows with cambered heads. South return wall of C17 red brick with plinth, first and second floor bands and projecting stack. The latter, and the outer corners all with moulded brick quoins. C17 red brick projecting staircase bay to rear with plinth, moulded brick quoins and 2 brick pilasters flanking small cellar 2 light casement, and truncated by C19 semi-circular headed glazing bar sash illuminating staircase, with intersecting glazing bars in head. C20 brick covered passage to east with plank door, adjoins farmhouse to red brick bakehouse with brick coped and tumbled gables. Single storey and garret, 2 bay, with doorway with plank door to left and 3 light sliding sash to right, both with segmental heads. Kitchen to south with interior C17 chamfered beam with ogee and roll moulded triangular stops. The rest of the interior remodelled in c.1820. All the doorways and fireplaces with delicate reeded architraves and panelled doors. 2 flight return staircase with carved tread ends, plain balusters and moulded handrail. Landing with 2 openwork and reeded segmental headed archways. Passageways upstairs with painted panelling with narrow, raised panels. C17 red brick work on exterior typical of the Fen Artisan Mannerist style. North range gable end cracked recently revealing a possible timber framed house inside stock brick casing.
