Description
TF 32 87 LOUTH 824/2/10010 Entrance wing at Louth Hospital GV II Workhouse entrance range, now hospital. 1837-39, with later additions. Designed by George Gilbert Scott. Brick with brick and ashlar dressings, hipped Welsh slate roof with ridge stacks. Single storey. Tall central gateway projects above roofline topped with large ashlar pediment. Central round headed archway, now glazed, moulded impost band and large rusticated ashlar arch. Unaltered right wing has 2 glazing bar sashes with pilasters between and projecting end pavilion with corner pilasters and 2 glazing bar sashes. Altered left wing has 2 original glazing bar sashes and an inserted doorway beyond. Projecting end pavillion rebuilt with broad pedimented facade also with corner pilasters and tall central glazing bar window flanked by single smaller glazing bar sashes. Rear elevation has original archway with pediment and small single storey projections either side. Left wing has 6 original glazing bar sashes. Altered right wing has later flat roofed additions and taller gable with 3 windows. Listing NGR: TF3258387774
