TF 35 NW CARRINGTON MAIN STREET New Bolingbroke (east side) 4/9 The Crescent G.V. II Curved crescent of shops and houses, now 6 houses. 1823. For John Parkinson, C20 alterations. Red brick. Hipped slate roofs, pantiles to the left 2 bays. Single lateral red brick stacks to the central block and the outer 6 bay wings. Two and a half storeys, 6 bay centre flanked by 2 storey, 6 bay wings slightly set back. Further single storey, 2 bay wing to the far right and 2 storey 2 bay wing to the far left. Central 6 bays with overhanging eaves and first and second floor raised brick and dentil bands. The 2 storey wing to the right with moulded eaves and raised brick and dentil first floor band. Central wing has 2 large shop windows flanked by moulded pilaster strips with single brackets and entablature over. Each window with 9 panes, the brick work under being bowed. Either side are single doorways with panelled doors and overlights flanked by single moulded pilaster strips with brackets and entablature over. Further left and right are single glazing bar sashes. Above are 6 similar sashes with 6 similar smaller sashes on the top floor, all with cambered arched flush wedge painted brick lintels. The right wing has from left to right a single similar glazing bar sash with cambered arched flush wedge brick lintel, a doorway with panelled door, overlight and similar surround, a similar C20 shop window, a single sash, a doorway with glazed door and similar surround and a single glazing bar sash with similar lintel. Above are 6 similar sashes and lintels. The 2 bays on the far right have a stepped parapet with similar band. Single similar sash and lintel with, to the right, a blocked doorway with similar lintel. The left 2 storey wing has from right to left an enlarged doorway with glazed door and similar surround, 2 garage doorways with similar surrounds, a single glazing bar sash with flush wedge brick lintel, a doorway with panelled door, overlight and similar surround, a single glazing bar sash with flush wedge lintel. Above are 6 similar glazing bar sashes with flush wedge brick lintels. The projecting 2 bay wing on the far left, being curved to the single right bay, has 2 C20 cross casements on each floor. The ground floor left being in former doorway with plaque over inscribed 'P 1823'. The crescent was built to house the workers who were employed by John Parkinson in his factory for weaving crepes and bombazines. Parkinson is said to have obtained permission soon after 1816 to lease from the Crown a tract of fenland situated between Revesby and Boston. Listing NGR: TF3084458019
