TF 46 NE CANDELSBY MONKSTHORPE LANE (east side) 5/13 Candelsby Hall 3.2.67 G.V. II Incorrectly shown on OS map as Candelsby House. House. 1782, extended mid C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, ashlar dressings, asbestos slate roof, stone coped stepped gables. 2 tall, partly external gable brick stacks. 2 storey plus attics, 3 bay front, central bay slightly advanced, plinth, first floor band, dentillated modillion cornice, parapet with moulded top, surmounted by 4 bulbous urns. Central panelled door with traceried fanlight, set in a bow porch, having semi-circular head and panelled reveals. In the sides are single blocked semi- circular headed openings. Flanked by single tall glazing bar sashes. To first floor are 3 glazing bar sashes. All openings have flat brick arches with key-stones. Over the porch is a cast iron railed balcony. In the roof are 3 dormers with shaped lead roofs. To the left is a 2 storey, 3 bay service range. In the right hand front is a 2 storey bow window with 3 glazing bar sashes to each floor. Interior retains shutters. The house was built for the Massingberds of Gunby. Listing NGR: TF4550867298
