Description
BOSTON TF3244SE MARKET PLACE 716-1/7/104 (East side) 14/02/75 No.24 GV II Formerly known as: Nos.24 AND 25 MARKET PLACE. Shop, now offices. C15 origins, altered late C18, late C19, and C20. Render and stucco. Slate roof and single stack behind parapet. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3-bay front with sill bands, moulded dentilled cornice, balustraded parapet. To ground floor a late C19 shop front with pilasters and brackets to moulded angled fascia. To 1st floor 3 plain sashes with moulded surrounds and small panels below. To 2nd floor 3 small sashes, also with moulded surrounds on tabs. The lower rear wing has, along Grants Lane, the doors and windows of the small corn trading offices used C19 in conjunction with the market. INTERIOR: retains vestiges of earlier C15 timber framed walls retained inside. HISTORY: the corn market was held in front of the Peacock Hotel on the site adjacent, now occupied by Boots the Chemist.
