Description

BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9237 HIGH ROAD, Manthorpe 1315-0/11/122 (South East side) 21/09/79 No.17 GV II Estate cottage, now a house, and attached boundary wall. Dated 1747, remodelled mid Cl.9, with late C20 alterations. Coursed squared stone with brick dressings and steep pitched renewed pantile roofs. 2 rebuilt brick gable stacks, the left one coped. Brick quoins and tumbled gables. 2 storeys; 2 window range. Double gabled front with two 2-light windows, and below, 2 larger 3-light windows with mullions. All these windows have C19 cast-iron lattice glazing bars. Blank right gable has a datestone inscribed "Jo. Nelson 1747". Left return has a C20 porch. To right, attached coursed rubble boundary wall with gabled rubble coping topped with brick. Approx 30m long. Remodelled as an estate cottage for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
