TF 2569 HORNCASTLE CHURCH LANE (west side) 6/31 The Old Grammar 7.12.66 School G.V. II Free grammar school, now hall. 1778, 1855, C20. Red brick. Plain tiled roof with stone coped gables with kneelers. Single storey, 6 bay front including 2 bays of 1855 to left and with plinth and with decorative eaves. Doorway to right in C20 brick, gabled porch with plank door and inner plank doors, narrow fixed lights in return walls. Doorway and porch inserted into glazing bar sash with segmental head and triple glazing bars remaining above. 3 glazing bar sashes to left with break in bonding beyond, and 2 glazing bar sashes to left. All the windows with segmental heads. Grammar school founded c.1329, refounded in 1571 by Lord Clinton as the Free Grammar School of Queen Elizabeth. Rebuilt on original site in 1778.
