Description
TF 03 NW NEWTON AND HACEBY CHURCH LANE (south side) 6/41 The Old Post Office. II House. 1613, altered C19 and C20. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, pantile roof and 2 gable and single axial ridge stacks in red brick. 2 storey, 4 bay front having off centre 2 panelled door with to left a 2 light fixed glazing bar window in a C17 moulded stone surround. To right are a 3 light glazing bar casement and a similar 2 light window. To first floor are 2 further windows with C17 moulded stone surrounds. To left is a single storey service block containing a single 2 light sliding glazing bar sash. The interior retains chamfered girders and in the principal room an inglenook fireplace with moulded bressemer, with initials RS and date 1613, hounds, human masks and knotwork decoration, also a 4 centred arched fireplace. The roof is of clasped purlin construction. Listing NGR: TF0499136153
