TIMBERLAND MAIN ROAD: THORPE TILNEY TF 15 NW B1189 (west side) 6/57 Evans Farmhouse 23.4.86 II Farmhouse. c1782. Red brick, partially rendered, with red brick dressings. Pantile roof with brick coped gables with kneelers. 2 spine wall stacks. First floor band and dentil eaves cornice. Double range plan. 2 1/2 storey. 3 bay south front has central doorway with C20 half-glazed door with overlight, flanked by single contemporary small plain glazing bar sashes, 3 similar sashes above, all these openings have segment headed wedge lintels. Above a second floor band, and 3 small glazing bar sashes with wooden lintels. 2 bay, gabled, rendered west front, has 2 glazing bar sashes, and above a similar sash and a blind painted window, with above again a similar arrangement of smaller windows. 2 bay, gabled, east front has a single plank door with overlight, and 2 glazing bar sashes to the left, with above 2 similar sashes, all these openings have segment headed wedge lintels. Above again 2 smaller similar sashes, with segment heads. Interior: South West corner room has a pair of round-headed, late C18 cupboards, with raised and fielded panels. This farmhouse was built for the Whitchcote family, whose initials appeared on a lead pump, dated 1782, which once stood in the yard. Marked on the OS Map as Top Farm. Listing NGR: TF1116057928
