Abstract/Summary

Report on a historic building survey conducted at Ivy House Farmhouse, Bag Enderby, to inform a programme of repair and restoration of the cottage. The survey comprised photographs combined with photogrammetry and a laser scan to craete an accurate 3D model of the building, and a drawn record of the timber framing and roof trusses, as well as a written description. Ivy House Farmhouse (also known as 'Thatched Cottage') is a mid 18th century Grade II Listed farmhouse of mud and stud construction with a thatched roof. At the time of survey, the roof thatches had been removed and the building encased in scaffolding with a cover over for protection. The wall timbers showed signs of significant decay, caused by an infestation of deathwatch beetle, resulting in loss of section to all timbers observed during the survey, with the mud and stud batons similarly affected. Evidence of damage caused by common furniture beetle was also noted.
