Title Archaeological Excavation Report: Strip, Map and Record on Land off Blanchard Road, Louth
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2017

Abstract/Summary

Archive for an archaeological excavation conducted on land at Blanchard Road, Louth, prior to the construction of a residential development. The excavation focused on two discrete areas, targeting features identified during a previous programme of trial trenching (see ELI14548). The smaller western area was positioned to investigate a possible ditch of Roman date and a series of circular features tentatively identified as stakeholes. The ditch was revealed to be an elongated pit, and none of the circular features were identified and it was suggested that they were the result of animal burrowing or root action. In the eastern area, a number of post-Medieval features were encountered, along with two undated pits. Northwest-southeast aligned furrows were noted in both areas.
