Description
The report on a programme of historic building recording that was undertaken at Manor Farm, College Road. The survey was done prior to a commercial and residential redevelopment of the site, which included demolition of one of the buildings. The buildings surveyed comprosed some of the earlier surviving buildings of the farm (MLI120958) and were part of a larger complex that has since been demolished. The buildings comprising of a shelter shed (previously identidies as a "Wagon hovel") and cattle pens which opened onto a crewyard, both aligned east to west. The remnants of a north to south aligned buildings was recorded, which was identified as a threshing barn and later converted into a milking shed. The shelter shed contained a fragment from a slab of possible medieval origin, and was interpretated as being ecclesiastical or a grave slab. The buildings seem to represent an mid 19th century alkteration and expansion of an earlier farm complex. Meterial evidence shows 20th century and more modern alterations to the buildings.
