Abstract/Summary

Report on a magnetometry survey conducted on land to the south of Woodhall Spa to inform a proposed residential development. A broad natural palaeochannel was identified towards the west of the site, within which was an area of strong readings suggesting the presence of burnt material. In the centre of the site, a possible rectangular ditch enclosure was encountered. To the north of this the footprint of a former structure and enclosure depicted on historic mapping was noted. Further northwest was another group of ditch-like anomalies and an area of possible burnt material, which may be associated with the construction of modern housing at Grove Drive immediately to the north. At the far eastern edge of the survey area, a number of ditches correlating with cropmarks visible on aerial photographs (see MLI40411) were encountered.
