Abstract/Summary

Archive for an archaeological excavation conducted on land to the south of Horncastle Road, Wragby, prior to the construction of a residential estate on the site. The excavation focused on two areas identified as potentially archaeologically significant in prior trial trenching. In Area 1, Roman activity including a kiln and kiln platform was encountered. In Area 2, the excavation confirmed the presence of an Iron Age ditched enclosure containing a series of ring ditches. Finds encountered included a large quantity of Roman tile and brick, some of which had hoof and paw prints, and in one case a human child's footprints, on their surface. An Roman fired clay sling shot and an Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch were also recovered.
