Abstract/Summary

Report on a historic building survey undertaken prior to the conversion of a former agricultural or ancillary building at Waverley Court, Queen Street, Market Rasen. The surveyed building is a two storey red brick structure in English Garden Wall Bond, under a hipped pantile roof. Internally, the ground floor is divided into five rooms: from west to east, a probable former cart shed, a room of unknown original use with a modern double doorway, a single former stable with timber hay rack and trough on the south wall, a double stable, and another possible former cart shed or passage. The two stables once had an internal doorway, though this is now infilled. The eastern cart shed's large flat-arched entrance has been partially infilled and replaced with a single door. All five rooms have openings on the north elevation. A hatch in the western cart shed leads to the first floor, which is divided into two former hay lofts. Both lofts have a loading door in the north elevation. The building dates to at least the late 19th century, and may be historically associated with the nearby early 19th century Manor House (MLI97037).
