Abstract/Summary

Report on a programme of trial trenching comprising eleven trenches excavated to inform the proposed construction of a new residential development on land east of York Gardens, Gosberton. The presence of one post-medieval field boundary previously identified in geophysical survey on the site (see ELI13961) was confirmed. Several other ditches were identified running parallel to this, representing agricultural remains or other former field boundaries. The only linear features identified on a different alignment were two undated northeast-southwest aligned ditches in the southwest corner of the site, from which no finds were recovered. Eight modern ditches, some containing ceramic field drains, and a pit were also observed but not excavated. No other archaeologically significant features, deposits or finds were encountered.
