Abstract/Summary
Report on a programme of historic building survey, conducted to inform the proposed renovation, including demolition and replacement of a modern extension, of Greenwood Cottage, North Owersby. The core of the cottage is of mud and stud construction, likely dating to the mid 18th century. Later alterations of the building in the 19th century included the addition of extensions to each end, the replacement of the hipped roof with gables to increase space in the first floor bedrooms, and the encasing of the historic core in brick. A number of original features remain, including the central chimney and inglenook fireplace, and much of the timber frame from the original cottage including some cruck joists.
