Abstract/Summary
Archive for the programme of historic building survey, conducted to inform the proposed demolition of The Old Cottage, at South Road, North Somercotes. The building is a one and a half storey cottage, most of which was constructed of brick in the mid to late 18th century. Some earlier fabric was noted, however, including a wall constructed of mud and stud which was thought to date date from to the 17th century. A complex history of alterations to the structure was identified, including the conversion of part of the building to a butcher's shop in the 19th century.
