Abstract/Summary

Report on a historic building survey undertaken to inform proposed repairs to the roof structure, conversion of the second floor to living accommodation, and other alterations and extensions. The focus of the survey was on the elements of the building of most significant historic and architectural importance, particularly in the internal roof space where features would be obscured by conversion work. The west external wall of the space shows the outline of an infilled fireplace, lath and plaster partition walls, and evidence of a former ceiling, since removed. Several roof truss beams have decorative moulding, and carpenters marks are visible on a number of timbers. Several trusses have metal repair beams attached where insect damage and structural movement have weakened them. One section of the roof still has traditional lime torching securing the roof tiles.
