Report on the excavation of four trial trenches, dug to inform proposed residential development on land at Middlefield Lane, Gainsborough. The trenches were targeted to investigate a number of geophysical anomalies recorded by a prior magnetometry survey (see ELI13578), and confirmed most of the recorded magnetic anomalies as being either modern disturbance or the result of late post-medieval farming activity. No archaeologically significant features, deposits or finds were encountered.
