Title 'Site No.8' - Former RAF Blyton, The Woodlands, Laughton
Author/Originator

HER Report no. 6219

Abstract/Summary

Heritage assessment produced to determine the archaeological implications of the proposed conversion into holiday accommodation of surviving Stanton shelters and Nissen hut bases on Site No.8 of the former RAF Blyton. Site No.8 is one of around 6 dispersed accommodation sites that served the RAF base, and was used to house officers, sergeants, and airmen. 4 Stanton air raid shelters and the bases of 28 Nissen huts survive in their original locations on the site. This group of buildings is significant, as there are very few examples of surviving groups of Stanton shelters, and even fewer that have both Stanton shelters and surviving evidence for Nissen huts.
