Report on a survey, conducted of the late 19th century private water supply system to the former Withcall Estate. The water system was installed at some point during the 1880s by Nathaniel Clayton, the Lincoln industrialist who had purchased the estate in 1870. The system gathered water from natural springs into two separate reservoirs, with that from the larger reservoir being used to drive a waterwheel driven pump to deliver water from the smaller reservoir to the various farms and houses across the estate. The arrival of mains water supply from Louth in 1972 made the system redundant, but much of the system is still in place, including the reservoirs, underground pumphouse, pipeline network and several of the original storage tanks.
