Title 'The Excavation of a Prehistoric Saltern at Hogsthorpe, Lincolnshire' in Lincolnshire History and Archaeology
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1981

Abstract/Summary

Article detailing the late 1977 and 1978 excavations of a suspected saltworking site to the south-west of Hogsthorpe. The excavations revealed the remains of an Iron Age saltern hearth, surmounted by an extensive spread of briquetage. Flooding in the late Iron Age appeared to have brought the salt-making activity to an end, with agricultural activity taking over in this area in the drier early Romano-British period.
