HER Report no. 2572

Abstract/Summary

Report on a gradiometry survey, conducted as part of an investigation of the Roman Town and Cemetery at Ancaster. Two separate areas were surveyed: the cemetery area west of the Roman Town (area A) and an area to the east of the Roman Town (area B). A number of possible kilns or pyres were identified in area A, as well as a ditch which formed the northern limits of the Roman cemetery. Clearly defined enclosures and field systems were identified in area B, along with a possible road or causeway, which appeared to be earlier than the town defences, and a possible infilled quarry of unknown date.
