Full Description

A series of regularly spaced, parallel ditches were recorded in February 2014, during trial trenching on land at Drain Bank North, Spalding. Although no dating material was recovered, the ditches were thought to be typical of a post-medieval dyling system. Two distinct phases of ditch construction could be determined across the site, with the earlier phase of ditches aligned on a north-east to south-west axis, and the later phase aligned on north-west to south-east axis. The later phase of construction was seen to accord well with the arrangement of fields that were depicted on the 1819 enclosure award map, although some of the ditches had already been infilled by this point. {1}{2}
