Full Description

A Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIA fighter aircraft crashed near to Fen Lane, to the west of south-west of North Somercotes on the 5th of July 1941. The aircraft was designated P8085 from 452 Squadron, which was a Royal Australian Air Force fighter squadron flying from Kirton in Lindsey. The aircraft was attacked by a German Ju 88 while on a night flight from RAF Digby to Donna Nook. The pilot was killed in the incident. A licence to excavate the remains of the aircraft was granted in September 2014, but was not acted upon. {1}{2}{3}
