Full Description

The corrugated iron church at Walesby was erected in 1881. {1} The then rector thought the medieval church dilapidated and awkwardly situated up the hill from the village and so within two years of his arrival a temporary iron church was erected some 100m to the west of the Rectory. It remained in service for 33 years until the present church of St Mary was built. There was no graveyard at the Iron Church and burials continued at the old churchyard of All Saints' until the new church was opened. The Iron Church consisted of a front porch, the nave (to seat 140) and the chancel at the east end. When St Mary's opened in 1914, the iron church was sold, dismantled and moved to become a chapel in nearby Linwood (see PRN55094). {2}
