Full Description

Human remains were found in the grounds of Banovallum House during the construction of an extension to the rear. The six disarticulated human bone fragments, from at least three individuals, are most likely to have originated from disturbed formal inhumation burials. Given the location of the site in close proximity to and to the immediate west of the west gate and west wall of the Roman walled enclosure, it is possible to postulate that these disarticulated fragments may have originated from Roman roadside burials situated alongside a road extending from the west gate of the Roman enclosure and that they were subsequently disturbed by the construction of Banovallum House itself in the late 18th century or by subsequent extensions. {1}{2}
