Full Description
Marked as a Primitive Methodist Chapel on the OS County Map but there are documents that refer to a Wesleyan Chapel in Whaplode Washway which was larger than the United Methodist Chapel. It was built in 1825 and enlarged in the 1860s. It closed in 1971 and was in ruins by 1980. {1}
A former Wesleyan chapel of brown brick with a hipped slate roof, was built in 1825 and later doubled in width. The front wall had a single doorway with round-arched window above, a second doorway and window were added to the left in the enlargement and later a single central entrance was substituted; there is one round-arched window in each end wall and two windows in in the rebuilt back wall. On defaced tablet below original front window "Methodist CHAPEL 1825". On brick below later front window "J.SLATOR". {2}
