Full Description

The original chapel on the site was built in 1857 and then a United Methodist Free church was built on the site of this smaller chapel in 1878-79 to the design of Bell and Hardy of Lincoln. This stood until the reorganisation of Methodism in Spalding in 1955 when it was demolished. It was a majestic building and many influential Spalding people were members. The last vestiges were apparently cleared away around 1960. A photograph in Spalding Library shows that it had three storeys and a grand classical frontage with a pediment and classical columns and was approached by a broad flight of steps. {1}{2}{3}{4}
