Full Description

The first Brackenwoodside chapel was built in 1851 with a Sunday school adjacent. It was rebuilt on the same site in 1901 (without the Sunday school) and closed in 1968. It is of red brick and has a projecting central bay at the front, with a raised Dutch gable featuring stone coping and an emblem. There is mock Tudor/Arts and Crafts decoration either side. The main doorway features a pointed arch with stone hood moulding with decorative foliage ends. The building is currently disused and in a state of some disrepair. {1}{2}{3} The former chapel was the subject of a programme of building recording, conducted in July 2016 to inform proposed alterations and a change of use to residential. The building was designed by Mortimer and Sons of Lincoln, and was built by Charles Steadman of Woodhall Spa at a cost of £400. The chapel closed in 1968 and has lain unused since that date. Most of the original internal fittings were removed after the building's closure, and damage to the structure has since been caused by encroaching vegetation and dry rot. {4}
