Full Description

Three trenches were excavated by Pre-Construct Archaeology between December 2004 and February 2006 at 3 Willoughby Road, Boston. Trench 1 revealed a pit which contained mid 12th mid 13th century pottery and animal bone. Trench 2 revealed a linear feature which contained animal bone and a fragment of 13th to 14th century bowl, a pit which was undated but had been truncated by the linear feature so probably dated from a similar time, another linear feature which contained 15th to 16th century ceramic building material and pottery and another pit which contained mid to late 13th to 14th century pottery. Trench 3 revealed a ditch which contained a sherd of medieval pottery dating from the 12th to 14th century, horse bone, fragments of sheep/goat skull and a residual fragment of Roman jar. {1}{2}
