Full Description

9th to 13th century activity was identified in October 2012, during trial trenching on land off Brayford Wharf East, Lincoln. Trench 2 revealed a layer which contained two sherds of Saxo-Norman pottery. This layer may have been a clay floor surface of a domestic building. It was sealed by another layer which contained a small amount of late 10th to mid/late 11th century pottery sherds. A ditch was also revealed which contained late 10th to mid/late 11th century pottery and hearth or oven waste. This ditch may have been a bedding trench for sill beams from a wooden structure which had burnt down. {1}{2}
