Full Description

Medieval activity was identified in October 2012, during trial trenching on land off Brayford Wharf East, Lincoln. Trench 1 revealed layered deposits containing a sherd of Roman and a sherd of medieval tile, and pottery from the medieval, post-medieval and modern periods. It was determined that these layers were probably medieval, with residual artefacts from the Roman period and intrusive artefacts from later periods. A possible medieval wall, sealed by a layer contained 15th to 16th century pottery, was also recorded. The wall may represent a substantial construction of this date. A possible floor surface was revealed in Trench 2; this was associated with early 16th to 17th century pottery. {1}{2}
