Full Description
A possible linear feature, which may be evidence of an iron extraction or production site, was revealed in November 2011, during a magnetometry survey conducted to assess the impact of proposed development on land to the south of Kettering Road, Stamford.
Subsequent trial trenching on the site recorded an undated ditch and possible pit, but no supporting evidence for iron working on the site. It was thought that the geophysical anomalies previously recorded were the result of more recent activity, possibly connected with use of the area as an overflow car park for Stamford Football Club, rather than iron working activity. {1}{2}{3}
