Full Description
The house dates from the first half of the 18th century probably around 1730 or 1740. The rear extension is probably of the very late 1600s or early 1700s. The building was extended about 1860 with further alterations in the late 19th and mid 20th centuries. Other buildings on the site comprise a stable and coach house for the farmhouse of mid 19th century date together with two small groups of farm buildings. There is a cattle shelter with adjacent stable built of brick nominally the same as the farmhouse. It is of the 18th century. The remainder, stables, barn, granary, cartshed and cattle shelter are all of the mid 19th century. The barn has a date stone above the door with the letter B at the top, L and W in the centre and the date 1865. {1}
The Poplars, Gayton Le Marsh. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Linear. The farmhouse is attached to a range of working buildings. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within a loose farmstead cluster. Large modern sheds are located to the side of the site. {2}
