Full Description

Six trenches were excavated on land at the Priory Ruskin Academy, Grantham by Pre-Construct Archaeology in August 2011. A small scale Roman settlement or farm was found which included a ditch which contained Roman pottery and animal bone, three pits which contained Roman pottery and a post hole which contained Roman pottery. The pottery from these features suggests that the farmstead was active during the second and third centuries. Animal bone was also found and charred cereal remains suggest crop processing took place. {1}{2}
