Full Description

According to a member of the public, two human skeletons were excavated in the 1970s and a human skull was found in 2010 at 81 North Street, Caistor. The skeletons may have been given to the City and County Museum. {1} A site visit was made to the property on 25th July 2011 when a member of the public called this department indicating that bone had been found. A human skull, thought to be male, aged approximately 40 to 55 years old at death, and three cervical vertebrae had been recovered by a member of the public during excavation of a hole for a gate post. The next vertebra could be seen in the section of the post hole which indicates that the skeleton extended north. This appeared to be an articulated human burial. After photographing of the bone, it was replaced into the hole, covered and protected, before the gate post was put in. {2}
