Full Description

A Primitive Methodist chapel is indicated in this location on the 1931 Ordnance Survey County Series map. A documentary source suggests that the Primitive Methodists built a chapel in Sutton Bridge in 1865. The OS map suggests that the chapel lay to the south of the current building on the site, and has been demolished. The present building, which is dated 1888, may have been a Sunday School for the chapel. It is trapezoidal in shape and is built of red brick with a gabled roof which has a slate covering. A modern flat-roofed extension has been added to the north. The gabled elevation has six lancet windows, the outer two of which are graduated. Above the windows, in the gable, is a stone tablet inscribed '1888 PRIMITIVE METHODIST'. The gable verges have dentil brick. To the south, the north wall of the former adjoining demolished building survives. Velux windows have been inserted into the roof. {1}{2}{3}
